As a child of the 1980s, I grew up listening to Tiffany's #1 hit, "I Think We're Alone Now." It was one of my favorite songs!

But to be honest, I lost track of Tiffany after that song.

It wasn't until 2011, that I got reconnected with her music when I saw Tiffany & Debbie Gibson in concert together at Westbury Music Fair on Long Island.

That concert easily reminded me of why I initially fell in love with Tiffany. Her vocals were on fire! I remember being blown away by her performance & wondering why & how I ever stopped following her. I was thrilled to be reintroduced to such a phenomenal performer!

With the invention of music streaming, I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to all of Tiffany's music over & over again.

In 2024, I got another grand experience of seeing Tiffany in concert, this time on Staten Island. What a show Tiffany put on! Her powerhouse vocals tore the roof right off the St. George Theatre. The way she interacted with the audience, made me love Tiffany even more!

After that concert, I dove even deeper into Tiffany's music catalog & I am thrilled to own several more Tiffany albums & reclaim my spot in her fandom!

Needless to say, when I heard that Tiffany was making her NYC stage debut in Daniel Levin's Off-Broadway musical, Spandex the Musical, I knew this was the moment I needed to try to speak with the Pop Icon!

I am thrilled that everything worked out!

In this interview, Tiffany answered my call to share:

In Spandex the Musical, Orlando’s aerobics world is all neon, sweat, and sabotage when a washed-up gymnast and a painfully nice housewife challenge a power-obsessed fitness king.

Armed with leg warmers and a dream, they set their sights on the 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship, hosted by Alan Thicke.

Spandex The Musical plays a VERY LIMITED RUN from September 17-27, 2026 at Asylum NYC! Click Here for tickets!

1. This fall you are making your NYC Stage Debut in Daniel Levin's Spandex: The Musical. How did this show come your way? Spandex came to me through the show’s creative team, and I was immediately intrigued.

Once I started learning more about Linda and the world Daniel and Liz had created, I could see so much of myself in her. She’s walking into this completely over-the-top, competitive world, trying to find her confidence and make her dreams happen.

There’s a lot of humor in the show, but there’s also real heart underneath it all. I loved that combination.

It felt like one of those unexpected opportunities that arrives at exactly the right moment.

2. What made Spandex: The Musical the right project for you to make your NYC Stage debut? It has everything I love: music, comedy, big personalities, ’80s energy and a story about people fighting for their dreams. But it isn’t just nostalgia.

There’s a message about believing in yourself, finding your voice and not allowing someone else to decide what you’re capable of.

Linda has vulnerability, determination and a little bit of fire, and I really connected with her.

There are also some Tiffany "easter eggs" in the show, which makes the experience incredibly special for me. If I’m going to make my New York stage debut, this feels like the perfect way to do it.

I’m so excited that tickets are now on sale and audiences will finally get to step into the wild world of Spandex with us very soon!

3. Prior to your music career taking off, you were a dancer and actress. What excites you most about coming back to the world of theatre? I love becoming part of a character and telling a story that develops throughout an entire evening.

In concert, I’m telling stories through my own music and experiences. With theatre, I get to step into somebody else’s shoes—or, in this case, colorful leg warmers—and discover how she moves, thinks and responds.

I started out dancing and acting before music took over my life, so coming back to theatre feels both new and strangely familiar. I’m also excited about being part of an ensemble. Everyone on that stage depends on one another, and every performance is alive. That little bit of unpredictability is exciting to me.

4. What skills have you gained from your music career that you feel will help you in your New York stage debut? Performing live for so many years has taught me how to be present. Things don’t always go exactly as planned on stage, and you learn how to listen, adjust and keep the audience with you.

Touring has also given me tremendous discipline. You have to protect your voice, take care of your body and deliver, even when you’re tired or something unexpected happens.

Most importantly, music has taught me how to connect emotionally with an audience. You can hit every note perfectly, but if people don’t feel what you’re saying, it doesn’t matter.

I want audiences to understand Linda, root for her and feel something relatable when she shares her story.

5. Since Spandex: The Musical takes place in the 1980s, what are some things you miss about the ’80s? I miss how colorful and fearless everything was. The fashion was big, the hair was big, the music was big—nobody was trying to disappear! People were willing to experiment and be a little outrageous.

I also miss the way we discovered music. You went to the record store, studied the album artwork, read every credit and made mixtapes for people you cared about. There was more mystery because we weren’t documenting every second on our phones.

You could make mistakes, reinvent yourself and try again without the whole world commenting on it immediately.

Spandex captures that boldness and fun, but it also shows the ambition and pressure hiding beneath all that neon.

6. Press notes state that your character “steps into a cutthroat aerobics studio ruled by a power-hungry fitness king.” You have survived and thrived in the cutthroat music industry that is/was largely ruled by men. What tips would you have for the audience member who is struggling to get ahead in their industry? Know who you are and don’t give that power away. Listen to advice, learn everything you can and be willing to grow—but understand the difference between guidance and somebody trying to control your choices.

I would also say that success doesn’t always happen in a straight line. There have been times when I’ve had to start over, take a different path or create my own opportunities. That isn’t failure; that’s survival and reinvention.

Find people who genuinely support you, keep learning your business and don’t be afraid to say no. Sometimes protecting your dream is just as important as chasing it.

7. Spandex: The Musical is also about wanting dreams to come true. What is one dream you still want to achieve? Right now, one of my dreams is to see Spandex continue to grow beyond this Off-Broadway production. I would love to watch audiences fall in love with these characters and see the show have a long life—maybe even all the way to Broadway and the West End.

I’ve been fortunate enough to achieve many of the dreams I had as a teenager, but I’m still dreaming. That’s what keeps me moving forward. I want to keep making music, acting, creating experiences and taking on projects that surprise people.

I never want to reach a point where I think, “Well, I’ve done everything.” There is always another creative adventure waiting.

8. In addition to music, you just released your first official cookbook, POP LIFE: The Ultimate ’80s Kitchen Encore. If you could create a culinary dish based upon Spandex: The Musical, what would it be and what would you call it? It would have to be Linda’s Legwarmer Lasagna!

Lasagna is colorful, comforting and layered, but it also has all that stretchy cheese—so it’s perfect for Spandex. I’d give it a fun ’80s twist with vibrant layers of spinach, roasted red peppers, ricotta and a rich tomato sauce.

It would look fabulous when you cut into it, but it would still be something warm and satisfying that brings everyone together.

That’s very much my philosophy with food: have fun with it, make it approachable and always give it a little personality.

9. Similarly, you have a fan-driven experience called POPtails with Tiffany, blending craft cocktails, live acoustic performances and curated menus. If you made a signature drink based upon Spandex: The Musical, what would you make and what would you name it? I’d call it The Spandex Spritz.

It would be bright, sparkling and just a little dramatic—probably vodka, passion fruit, fresh lime and sparkling wine, with edible glitter swirling through it. I’d add a touch of blue pea tea so that it changes colour when the citrus goes in.

You’d start with one shade and end with another, which feels perfect for a musical about transformation and finding the confidence to become who you’re supposed to be.

It would have to arrive in a fabulous glass with a neon garnish. This is Spandex—subtlety is not invited!

10. I can’t do an interview with you without talking about one of your signature songs, “I Think We’re Alone Now.” When you are not on stage, what do you like to do when you think you’re alone now? When I think I’m alone now, I’m usually cooking, working in my zen garden or watching science fiction and true-crime television. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, and I love anything that lets me escape into another world.

I also customize vintage jean jackets through my company Radical Redz, so there might be loads of denim and creative chaos spread everywhere.

I’m constantly traveling and surrounded by people, so when I get quiet time at home, I really appreciate it. Give me some good coffee, something cooking in the kitchen, my garden and a great sci-fi marathon, and I’m very happy.

Although I’ll probably start singing while I’m doing it—so I’m never completely quiet!

More on Tiffany:

Tiffany is a multi-platinum recording artist, performer, and entrepreneur whose career has continuously expanded across music, food, theater, immersive experiences, and lifestyle.

She first made history at just 16 years old, becoming the youngest female artist to top the Billboard charts with her debut album and #1 hits “I Think We’re Alone Now” and “Could’ve Been.” The album sold millions worldwide and launched Tiffany as a global pop phenomenon, contributing to more than 15 million albums sold across her career.

Rather than remain defined by early success, Tiffany pushed her creative direction forward. In 2000, Billboard named The Color of Silence one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year, marking a turning point that reintroduced her as a more introspective, alternative-leaning artist.

She continued exploring new creative territory with Rose Tattoo, which drew from her Nashville roots, and A Million Miles, where she took on a co-producer role and further shaped her creative direction. By the release of her 10th studio album, Pieces of Me, Tiffany had refined a signature blend of rock edge and pop sensibility that defines her current sound.

In 2019, she joined the Mixtape Tour alongside New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson, Salt-N-Pepa, and Naughty By Nature, performing 55 shows across 53 cities for more than 600,000 fans.

Tiffany’s creative interests have also taken her beyond the recording studio. As a finalist on Food Network’s Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, she earned praise from Guy Fieri and Rachael Ray, establishing her presence in the culinary space.

In 2020, she launched Let’s Food with Tiffany, a subscription-based culinary platform that later inspired Tiffany Takeovers, bringing her passion for food and music to life through exclusive pop-up experiences across the country.

As her culinary brand grew, these experiences led to POPtails with Tiffany, blending craft cocktails, live acoustic performances, and curated menus into a unique fan-driven experience.

She also launched Tiffany’s Spice Collection and a signature cocktail box line in collaboration with celebrity mixologist Rob Floyd, and co-authored Breakfast with Tiffany with Guitar Foodie Tom Vrem, expanding her culinary work through products, partnerships, and experiences.

In 2022, Tiffany released Shadows through Deko Entertainment, her most personal body of work to date. Written through the lens of divorce, growth, and clarity, and led by the single “I Like the Rain,” the album stands as a defining statement of resilience and reinvention.

In 2023, she brought the world of Shadows beyond the album with the Shadows UV Pop Art Show, a live immersive experience combining music, storytelling, and visual art and creating another way for audiences to experience her work.

Long before nostalgia became a strategy, Tiffany had already built a career around moving forward creatively rather than simply revisiting the past.

At the same time, her earlier catalog continues to find new audiences through cultural placements including Stranger Things and ongoing digital discovery, reinforcing her place as both an ’80s icon and a lasting voice in pop culture.

Her creative universe also includes Let’s Zen My Friend, a lifestyle platform centered on intentional living, self-expression, and reinvention.

That multidimensional approach comes together in POP LIFE: The Ultimate 80s Kitchen Encore, co-created with Alicia Shevetone and marking Tiffany’s first traditionally published cookbook. Inspired by life on tour, ’80s nostalgia, and global flavors, the book brings together music, storytelling, and elevated comfort food, connecting multiple chapters of Tiffany’s life and career through a shared experience.

In 2026, Tiffany added another dimension to her career with her Off-Broadway debut in Spandex The Musical, bringing her performance background into a new creative arena.

More than four decades after first becoming a pop culture phenomenon, Tiffany continues to build on an extraordinary career without being confined by any single chapter of it.

Whether through music, food, theater, lifestyle, or immersive experiences, she continues to create new ways to connect with audiences across generations while remaining rooted in the authenticity, curiosity, and creative independence that have defined her career.
