After a season spent talking with some of My Entertainment Idols, I can't imagine a more meaningful way to close Season 5 than by honoring the one who has meant the most to me: Dolly Parton.

Since Dolly’s passing on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, I have been carrying a very specific kind of grief. The kind that comes when someone you never truly knew still somehow felt like family.

Dolly was in my headphones, on my television, in my childhood dreams, in my career ambitions, and in so many moments when I needed a little more courage, humor, softness, or sparkle.

I’m also sitting with the heartbreak of knowing my dream interview with Dolly will never happen. For years, that conversation lived in my imagination. I knew the questions I wanted to ask. I knew the stories I hoped she would tell. I knew how much I wanted to thank her, not just as a fan, but as someone whose life was shaped by her artistry.

But in true Dolly fashion, I’m trying to let gratitude sit beside the grief. Because what she gave me is enormous: joy, music, movies, memories, inspiration, and a lifelong reminder that you can be wildly ambitious and deeply kind at the same time.
