More on Kathy Garver:
Kathy Garver is best known for her starring role as “Cissy” in the long‑running CBS hit Family Affair, but her career spans film, stage, radio, voiceover, and audiobook narration.
Born in Long Beach, California, she began acting professionally at age seven in TV westerns, sitcoms, and dramas. At eight, Cecil B. DeMille expanded her role in The Ten Commandments after recognizing her talent, following her film debut in The Night of the Hunter.
While a speech major at UCLA, she landed Family Affair (1966–1971), becoming part of one of television’s most beloved classic series.
Afterward, she starred in an Israeli musical adaptation of the show, studied at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and performed in productions including My Fair Lady, Sunday in New York, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Trojan Women, later earning a Master’s in Theatre Arts from UCLA.
Today, Kathy continues to work across film and television, is in demand as a voice artist (including “Firestar” in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends), and is a respected teacher, host, and motivational speaker.
Kathy’s acclaimed Beatrix Potter recordings have sold over two million copies and earned numerous awards, and she has narrated more than 80 audiobooks for publishers including Brilliance Audio, The Dove Foundation, and Listen & Live Audio, winning multiple Audie Awards.
Her voice can be heard in films such as Backdraft, Apollo 13, Ransom, and Jingle All the Way.
Deeply committed to service, she has supported young actors through the Screen Actors Guild’s Young People’s Committee and BookPALS, and champions causes like Child HELP, the Rose Resnick Lighthouse for the Blind, and Make‑A‑Wish.
As President of The Family Affair Foundation, Kathy helps provide reading companions to seniors and at‑risk youth, and her contributions have been honored with accolades including the Former Child Star Lifetime Achievement Award, the Emerald Award, and the Golden Halo Lifetime Achievement Award.
