Once again, I was seduced by the music of award winning composer/lyricist Bobby Cronin, when I attend his concert "Bobby Cronin and Friends" on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Don't Tell Mama in NYC. Bobby's music is inspiring, heartfelt, and uplifting. He really knows how to get to the core of what it means to live life and experience everything it has to offer, from love and joy to sorrow and loss.
On Friday, December 16, 2011, I was treated to a truly delightful evening of holiday music at Carnegie Hall when I attended the NY Pops Holiday concert "John Pizzarelli and Jesicca Molaskey Wish You a Swingin' Christmas." This was my first time seeing the NY Pops and I was entranced, engulfed, and mesmerized by their talent!
Once again I was put into the holiday spirit when I attended Hedda Lettuce's hilarious, smart, and stupendous holiday show "Lettuce Rejoice" on December 18, 2011 at the Metropolitan Room in NYC. With her signature comedy style and original parody songs, Hedda easily won the sold-out crowd over from the moment she took to the stage!
Review: "ICONS" Hitting all the right notes, "ICONS" celebrates the powerful, influential musical artists who have paved the way for so many. It really highlights the contribution these "ICONS" have made to the music industry and reminds us of why they have made not only a name for themselves, but have made music history!
Review: Ashley Austin Morris Comedy Show: "SO CLOSE...in a parallel universe" Performing to a standing room only crowd, Ashley triumphed with her brand of self-depreciation and observance comedy. For over an hour, Ashley had the crowd in huge laughter!
Review: Olivia Newton-John at Westbury Music Fair: Olivia put on quite a show! She played an equisite selection of music from her 40-year career! From her country hits to pop hits to her current recordings, Olivia had the crowd enthralled and excited for the full 2 hours!
Review: Andrea Marcovicci's "No Strings": With energy, passion, and joy, Andrea Marcovicci dazzled the eager crowd. This was my first introduction to Andrea and I have to say, I am now a fan! With a very friendly personality, Andrea easily won the room over from the moment she took the stage.
On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, I was taken into the mind of Marilyn Monroe/Norma Jean in "Siren's Heart...Marilyn in Purgatory." This very well written and directed show, with music, raised some great questions and points of how Marilyn/Nora Jean might have felt living her super stardom life. "Siren's Heart...Marilyn in Purgatory" really displayed the price some artists pay for living in the height of fame.
Review: On Saturday, November 26, I attended MCC's production of Thomas Higgins' "Wild Animals You Should Know" at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in NYC. This well put together production used the backdrop of the Boyscouts to raise a lot of good points about family, coming out, self-acceptance, and careers, especially why someone might go into their selected field as opposed to the perception of why someone might go into their selected field. The talented cast assembled to bring "Wild Animals You Should Know" to life is John Behlmann, Patrick Breen, Gideon Glick, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Daniel Stewart Sherman, and Tony Award Winner Alice Ripley!
"An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin" is quite enjoyable on many levels! First of all, it's an evening in musical theatre history performed by two Tony Award winners and lifelong friends. Second, it's a night of pure talent. Third, it's a lesson in what hard work, commitment, and education can do for a person.
On Thursday, November 14, 2011, I had the distinct honor of attending Out Magazines annual "Out 100" Gala in NYC, thanks to Buick! Check out my evening with Charles Busch, Julie Halston, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Adam Lambert, and many others wonderful celebs who contribute to being positive influences for the gay community!
