On Saturday, January 12, 2013, I was taken to another world when I attended the opening night of OBIE Award winner David Drake's new one-man show, "Tawny Tell Me True," at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC. Performing as his alter ego Tawny Heatherton, David once again filled the air with laughter, joy, and rainbows as he took the audience into the alternate universe that is Tawny Heatherton.

My first introduction to Tawny Heatherton was last February when she made her NY debut in My Tawny Valentine. Now Tawny has returned with an all-new show filled with more crazy adventures. This show was so funny and enjoyable because Tawny took the audience on a rollercoaster like ride. From alien abductions to starring on "Dark Shadows" as a child to reuniting with her long lost aunt Joey Heatherton at the Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino to reliving her glory years as a "one hit wonder" with "Run Crazy Man," Tawny flew to where the rainbow took her.

Opening Night of "Tawny Tell Me True." Adam Rothenberg and David Drake as Tawny HeathertonTawny maneuvered through danger, heartbreak, and love with a fearless nature that shined bright. Tawny's humor was spotlighted because the funny didn't always come from a punchline. For Tawny, her humor was found in the way she segued from one topic to another to the way she moved on stage to her vocal inflection to her made-up lyrics of popular songs. It's evident that Tawny marches to the beat of her own drum and to me, that is the real meaning of "Tawny Tell Me True."

If you are looking for a fun trip to take with lots of adventure, come see Tawny Heatherton in "Tawny Tell Me True" at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC (407 West 42nd Street, between 9th & 10th Avenue) on Saturday, January 19 and 26 at 7:30pm. Click here for tickets!
