Whenever I attend a Dina Martina show, one thing I know for sure is that I'm going to laugh, A LOT, and on Thursday, September 27, that was definitely the case when I attended Dina's latest show "Ample Wattage" at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC. From the moment Dina took the stage, she had the audience in stitches. You see, Dina Martina's humor is different than most, it's darker and at times twisted. For those who like that and can handle it, this is the perfect show for you!

I had enjoyed Dina Martina's "Ample Wattage" this past June, just before Dina took the show to Provincetown for the summer, but last night I LOVED IT. The summer really allowed Dina to perfect this show and tighten it up. The show I saw last night was seamless.

In "Ample Wattge," Dina brilliantly infused comedy, song parodies, story telling, and multi-media images. She took many popular songs such as Neil Diamond's "I Am, I Said" and put her signature stamp on it, making it much more humorous. The darker Dina's comedy was, the more I enjoyed it! Another reason "Ample Wattage" was so enjoyable was because of the show business stories she told, including my favorite one, about her friendship with Charo. Dina is so skilled in the way she tells a story that she had no problem keeping the audience enticed throughout the evening.

"Ample Wattage" had everything about a Dina Martina show I love. The only thing missing, for me, was her gift (using the soft "g" here) segment. This was the first time I had seen a Dina Martina show without her giving out gifts to audience members, but to be honest, I only missed it for a moment. The show worked really well without it.

"Ample Wattage" was electrifiying because of Dina's energy and genius dark humor. She knows what her audience likes and caters to that perfectly! "Ample Wattage" is not for the faint of heart. It's for those who can handle a different kind of humor.

"Ample Wattage" plays the Laurie Beechman Theatre in NYC (407 West 42nd Street, between 9th & 10th Avenue) through Sunday, September 30 at 7:30pm. Click here for tickets!
