As Tony Award nominee Tony Sheldon's character, "Bernadette" says in the show, "I'll never know, unless I give it a go!" And GO you must to see Broadway's "Priscilla Queen Of The Desert" at The Palace Theatre in NYC. For my third time since this show opened, "Priscilla" is still one of the most fun shows on Broadway. This time around, I attended the show with my parents and aunt and uncle, who really had a wonderful time!
"Priscilla" tells the story of three best friends who take the road trip of a lifetime, each discovering something special. What continues to keep this show fresh is the extraordinarly talented cast lead by Will Swenson ("Tick"), Nick Adams ("Felicia"), and Tony Sheldon ("Bernadette") along with The Divas (Lisa Howard, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Anastacia McCleskey), C. David Johnson ("Bob"), J. Elaine Marcos ("Cynthia"), Jessica Phillips ("Marion"), Steve Schepis ("Young Bernadette"), and Luke Noble Mannikus ("Benji" at certain performances), and a whole ensemble of dancers and singers! The talent up on that stage is fierce! From their vocals to dance moves, every single cast member shines brightly!
Between the cast, costumes, and music, "Prisicilla" is 100% pure fun intertwined with a touching story of unconditional love and acceptance. Featuring hits from almost every decade, such as Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff," Madonna's "Material Girl" and "Like A Prayer," The Weather Girls' "It's Raining Men," Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," Pat Benatar's "We Belong," and Crystal Waters' "Finally," "Prisicilla," has a song for everyone! For those of you into fashion and costumes, "Priscilla" definitely wins for having some of the most elaborate costumes I have seen on Broadway. They are bright, sophisticated, and still after three times, astonishing to look at.
I definitely have my favorite moments throughout the show, but one of things I love the most about "Priscilla" is that amongst all the glitz, glamour, and dance hits, is this heartfelt story about unconditional love and acceptance. It's a show that really says it's okay to be who you are, no matter what! This show can really help open the lines of communication between friends and family on so many topics because it presents these topics in the most colorful, fun, and unobtrusive way possible. "Priscilla Queen Of The Desert" is a real testament to the RuPaul saying, "Love yourself, because if you can't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else!"
If want to see a really fun show with a very talented cast that celebrates unconditional love and acceptance with songs you know and costumes that take your breath away, then I highly suggest going to see Broadway "Priscilla Queen Of The Desert" at The Palace Theatre in NYC (1564 Broadway at 47th Street).
