Tonight I had the pleasure of seeing rising singer/songwriter and fellow "Adaumbelle's Quest" participant Jodie Levinson perform at Parkside Lounge in NYC's Lower East Side. Jodie's energetic performance was a delight to watch! Performing a mixture of original songs off her debut CD "In The City" and a few cover tunes, Jodie wowed the packed crowd with her vocals, keyboard playing, and personality! Jodie's style is a mixture of blues, jazz, and pop tunes with lyrics that people can relate to. For instance, Jodie performed her original songs "In The City" about a relationship gone bad, "The Grass Ain't Green" a song that details one woman's wonder about if life is better on her own rather than the great guy she already has, "Lazy Sunday" a fun tune about having that one day where you do nothing, but spend the day in bed that that special someone, "Rough Boys" which highlights the fact that we usually want and fall for the "Rough Boys" instead of the good ones, "Strangers" a touching song Jodie wrote about the dissolution of a good friendship, and her hit single "A Matter of Taste" which is about what one person likes another person may not, it's just their taste. Jodie's cover songs included R. Kelly's "Ignition" and Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood."

Watching Jodie perform made me think of the numerous times I've seen Cyndi Lauper in concert. Like Cyndi, Jodie really engages her audience, especially when she comes off stage and sings right in the middle of the crowd, which was one of the best parts about tonight's show! I truly love it when a singer comes to "the people" and is one with them.

If Jodie keeps it up, she is surely going to go far! Jodie has a few gigs coming up in August. As soon as they are announced, I will let everyone know and I would highly suggest checking her out!
