On June 16, 2011 I had the pleasure of spending the evening with fellow "Adaumblle's Quest" participants Billy Mitchell and "Naked Eddie" seeing Theatre World and Drama League Award Winner Jason Danieley and his band The Frontier Heroes at The Metropolitan Room in NYC. Mixing a blend of southern family music, Jason Danieley and The Frontier Heroes put on a really delightful and intimate show! I describe their music as southern family music because it's a blend of blues, country, folk, Broadway, and standards, which is what Jason grew up singing and listening to. Performing songs off of their debut album "Jason Danieley and The Frontier Heroes" as well as new music, Jason creates an atmosphere that is very relaxed and comfortable where you feel like you are at home with the band, but the talent upon that stage is far more sophisticated than just a home band. Jason even introduces his band members as if everyone (performers and audience members alike) are related and has a little bio about each band member. It was very original and fun way to introduce the band.
Jason's vocals are strong, as usual, and together with the band blend exceptionally well! The great thing about Jason is that he is right at home whether on stage in a theatrical show or performing with his band! His presence is known and he's very engaging with the audience, which to me, makes for a much more enjoyable experience.
As a special treat to the evening, Jason brought his wife to the stage, three-time Tony Award Nominee Marin Mazzie. Together they sang a few songs from a new song cycle that was written for them by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty.
