When I sit through a show and say "That happened to me" or "I can identify with that," then, to me, that is the sign of a good show. That is exactly how I felt when I attended "Next Thing You Know" playing at CAP 21 in NYC. With a book and lyrics by Ryan Cunningham and music by Joshua Salzman, "Next Thing You Know" stars fellow "Adaumbelle's Quest" participants Adam Kantor and Lauren Molina (interview posting soon) along with Lauren Blackman and Heath Calvert, and tells the tale of four twenty somethings who are coming to the realization that youth ends and adulthood begins.

Intertwining stories and characters, "Next Thing You Know" answers the questions and quandaries many people face as they move from their twenties into their thirties. For instance, what do you do when you realize your dream might not happen and you have to possibly take a new path? What happens when you see your relationship is ending because you've grown apart? How do you leave your friends and lovers when you know that it's time to move away to find yourself and your niche?

The story and music of "Next Thing You Know" takes us through these journeys while it's young cast of rising performers, help bring it to life! The cast certainly plays well off of each other as though they've known each other for years. There were numerous lines or songs that really resonated with me throughout the show and made me think of a particular event in my life that was happening or had happened. Each cast member brings their own life experience to their role and that brings more of a realism to the show.

"Next Thing You Know" took me on trip back through time and showed me just how happy I am to have come out on the other side, even though the in between was tough.

"Next Thing You Know" plays at CAP 21 (18 West 18th Street, 5th Floor) Tuesday-Saturday at 7pm through June 25!
