Benny Marchant's EP release "Conversations Missed", which is leading up to the release of his full-length album "Cold Weather" in 2011 is a true dream come true! Benny's musical journey stared while he was still playing lacrosse in high school when he found his late grandfather's Gibson acoustic guitar in his parent's attic. Benny taught himself chords from a book and started playing songs on the radio, eventually recording his own compositions. His lacrosse skills landed Benny his first European gigs, playing in matches while attending college in Maryland, majoring in music. In college he formed a band called NRG, who popularity led to gigs around DC. After college NRG broke-up and Benny produced his own album "Teller" in a studio he set-up in his parents garage. Despite it's limited distribution, "Teller" developed a cult following, and now one of those songs "Alone" is featured on a British TV show. With the local success of "Teller," Benny packed his bags and headed West towards Los Angeles, but first stopping in Nashville, where a song he recorded "My Next Ex-Girlfriend" became a hit single with local radio. That success reminded Benny of his bigger dream and he completed his journey to Hollywood where he formed the band The Kings Royal. The Kings Royal took up residency at the Viper Room as well has playing gigs at the Whisky. They released their debut album "Beginning" and toured extensively with alt-rock band Candlebox. Even though The Kings Royal were short-lived, breaking up after just a year, this freedom allowed Benny to pursue his true musical dream. That dream is the "Conversations Missed" EP (click here for my review) with the full-length album "Cold Weather" coming in 2011. You can catch Benny performing songs off "Conversations Missed" this Saturday, October 23 at 8:30pm at Googie's Lounge in NYC (154 Ludlow Street) as part of the CMJ Music Marathon.
