Tommy Greenwald

From radio to advertising to published author, Tommy Greenwald is a man who knows how to write! Tommy's first children's book, "Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide To Not Reading" is being released on July 5 by Roaring Brook Press. This book is going to be a must have for that special child in your life. "Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide To Not Reading" is Tommy's way of getting children to enjoy reading by writing a book about how to get out of reading.

When Tommy is not writing books, he can be found creating, overseeing, and recording some of the best radio and TV spots for the Broadway community at Spotco, where he is the Executive Creative Director of the Broadcast and Copy Departments. Theatre is something Tommy knows a lot about too. He is the author of the 1995 Off-Broadway show "John & Jen" which is now not only performed stateside, but around the world!

"Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide To Not Reading" will be released on July 5 with a release party on July 19 at 6pm at Books of Wonder in New York City! For much more on Tommy Greenwald be sure to visit!

1. Who or what inspired you to become a writer? Well, I've been writing different kinds of things all my life - from the musical "John & Jen" to screenplays to country songs...but the idea of writing children's books didn't occur to me until two years ago.

2. How did you come up with the idea and concept for "Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide To Not Reading?" My sons - Charlie, Joe, and Jack - hated to read when they were growing up. I wanted to write a book that even they would like, so I decided to make it a book about how to get out of reading.

3. What excites you most about the release of your first book? The fact that I managed to finish it, kind of a miracle, and the fact that hopefully it will make kids laugh and enjoy the act of reading. Reverse psychology!

4. How has the experience of writing your first book changed you? I no longer return phone calls.

5. What's the best advice you've ever received? Probably from Moose my dog, who once said to me, "Are you going to eat the rest of that sundae? You look like you've had plenty. I'll take it from here."

6. Favorite part of the writing process? Stopping. I'm very lazy and I do anything to avoid it. I'm so happy when I'm done, even if I've just been writing for twenty minutes.

7. Favorite place to write? Probably the train into the city. It's got the least distractions. I like to go to Barnes and Noble to write, but I end up just ordering a frozen lemonade and browsing the internet and the shelves.

8. Favorite way to spend your day off? Couch. TV. Boxers.

9. Favorite website?

10. "Mary" or "Rhoda"? Murray.

11. Do you have any strange or unusual talent that nobody knows about? I might, but I don't know about it.

12. If you could dream about anyone while you sleep, who would it be? John Lennon.
